We are pleased to announce that we are one of the recipients of the Swedish Arts Council’s Programme for Artistic Freedom II grant for 2024 – 2027!
The team behind SHIFT has a 10-year legacy of organising the annual Safe Havens conference, a global networking event that brings together artists, human rights defenders, activists, lawyers, NGOs, intergovernmental organisations, and other actors. Held annually in a number of regions, particularly focusing on the global South, the conference addresses a wide range of crucial issues concerning artistic freedom. We were fortunate to have Safemuse’s benign support in establishing SH|FT during its initial years with the Artistic Freedom Grant – but with this grant SH|FT is now fully independent as an international organisation with a global scope.

Fredrik Elg, co-founder and director of SH|FT says, ”We are very happy to have earned the trust from the SAC to further develop SH|FT and our co-creative meeting places for artists and organisations invested in artistic freedom. It will allow us to continue gathering global communities to share knowledge and build networks of solidarity towards the vision of a world free from censorship, and free from oppression against artists and writers.”
Exciting news regarding upcoming events will be announced soon!
