Guides and Toolkits

Existing guides are variously focused on physical safety, digital safety, navigating censorship controversies, informing artists about the law, etc. The Arts Rights Justice Library Project at the University of Hildesheim maintains an up-to-date list of the many existing toolkits and guides.
Training

ARC’s Safety Guide for Artists explores topics such as defining and understanding risk, preparing for threats, fortifying digital safety, documenting persecution, finding assistance, and recovering from trauma: https://artistsatriskconnection.org/guide ARC also offers regional training online and in person.
Koalisi Seni (The Indonesian Arts Coalition) is an Indonesian non-profit umbrella organization focused on artistic freedom and strengthening the artistic sector in Indonesia. The work focuses on advocacy work as well as the training and knowledge building of its member organizations. The organization conducts studies on cultural policies and artistic freedom violations.
The National Coalition Against Censorship, a US-based coalition has developed a handbook for curators handling difficult material and launched a database of US Art Law for non-lawyers. It also conducts annual workshops for curators preparing them to deal with potentially controversial artistic content.
