Allies in the Arts

Allies in the Arts
Organizations and individuals working in the arts–curators, collectors, art dealers, art critics, art councils, independent art projects, and others–though not directly involved in advocacy for artists rights, can help through:
Offering residencies to artists at risk
Giving visibility to violations of artists’ rights and to the importance of upholding the right to artistic freedom
Providing professional support and job opportunities, especially to artists in exile
Advocacy for artists in general

Some umbrella organizations, like CIMAM, the International Committee for Museums and Collections of Modern Art or AICA, the International Association of Art Critics do take action in some high profile controversies, but more is needed. The art world is a powerful force, concerted action on behalf of artists at risk could have great impact.
Other potential allies who work broadly but have a commitment to artistic freedom:

Culture Action Europe is a European network of cultural networks, organizations, artists, activists, academics and policymakers. It brings together members and strategic partners from all areas of culture and serves as the political voice of the cultural sector in Europe, the first port of call for informed opinion and debate about arts and cultural policy.
European Composer & Songwriter Alliance (ECSA) ECSA is a European network whose main objective is to defend and promote the rights of music authors on a national, European, and international level. The Alliance wants composers and songwriters to benefit from equitable commercial conditions and, with members located all across the continent and beyond, strive to improve the social and economic development of music creation in Europe.
European Music Council is a non-profit organization dedicated to the development and promotion of all genres and types of music in Europe. It is a network that promotes and supports music-related activities for representatives of both national music councils and European networks involved in the fields of music education, creation, performance, participation, production and heritage. EMC has issued statements in support of artistic freedom.
The International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies (IFACCA) represents plural voices and perspectives, unified in the belief that arts and culture are a public good – with the potential to further inclusive social transformation – to be shaped and accessed equitably by all peoples. Through the World Summit, the Federation leads global thought and profiles key issues, including artistic freedom; fosters exchange; and promotes public support for arts and culture. IFACCA collaborates with international experts to develop original research and recommendations that respond to issues identified by National Members and foster public discussion on key issues. This includes reports for the wider international community, as well as extended reports exclusive to members.
This is a non comprehensive list that will be updated with other organizations.
